English is fun!
On Monday, September 9, 81 4th-graders, accompanied by three teachers, set off for Salzburg to start the new school year with a completely new experience: speaking English for five days.
Upon arriving in the picturesque mountain region of Wagrain, where our English language camp took place, the students were warmly welcomed by seven native speakers from various parts of the world, including Great Britain, the United States, Trinidad and Tobago and Canada. Over the course of the week, the students participated in three daily English lessons and enjoyed a variety of activities, such as a scavenger hunt, a sports afternoon, a disco night, and a games night. Returning to their classrooms, the students shared their thoughts on this unforgettable week:
“The lessons with the natives were very interesting. My first lesson was with Shonae, who taught us about the culture, the food and the people of her home country, Trinidad and Tobago, in the Caribbean. But of course, we also had other native teachers, like Andrew from Canada or Ivana, who taught us how to invent a product and sell it.” (Valentina Kerschner, 4A)
“I think I really improved my English and learned how to communicate with native speakers.” (Nora Grestenberger, 4D)
“On the first three days the weather was not very good, but on the 4th day we couldn’t believe our eyes – it snowed! Snow in September? This was one of the most memorable moments of the English project week in Wagrain.” (Jana Mühlwanger, 4D)
“We did many interesting projects and improved our English skills because we had to speak English all week.” (Paulina Pfneisl, 4A)
